Ken Sims was a direct-entry volunteer enlisting in September 1939. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for participating in torpedo attacks against enemy shipping off the Albanian coast 1941. In 1951 he was wounded when shot down over Korea, in operations from HMS Glory and rescued, from enemy territory, by an American helicopter.
After leaving the Royal Navy in 1953 he retained connection with naval aviation by becoming a key member of the design team developing Helicopter Radar as used in Sea Kings.
He is the Archivist and also Membership Secretary of the Telegraphist Air Gunner's Association.
